Hiroshima, Japan

Introduction
Hiroshima, located near the western end of the island of Honshu on Japan's Inland Sea, is best known as the target for the first U.S. atom bomb, dropped near the end of World War II.


Port Orientation
Hiroshima port is located some distance from the city center, so you'll need to take a tram or taxi into town.


Transportation
Most sites can be easily reached on foot, and the excellent tram system will take you nearly everywhere you want to go.


Sightseeing
Most visitors come to see the Peace Memorial Park and Museum. Located just across from the park is the A-Bomb Dome.

Miyajima Island, a short ferry ride away offers one of the country's most oldest Buddhist and Shinto shrines. The orange-red Ohtorii (gate)is one of Japan's most photographed treasures. Pedestrian lanes leading to the site are lined with souvenir shops and stalls that serve a delicious variety of food and snacks.
