San Antonio (Santiago), Chile

All of the major cruise lines switched to using San Antonio for cruise passenger vessels since Valparaiso became too congested.  San Antonio is a short distance to Santiago through Chile's main wine region.  San Antonio is larger with more berthing facilities to better accommodate cruise ships.

Location:

This industrial port is about 70 miles from the Santiago International airport.  The driving time averages about 90-minutes with traffic.

Getting Around:

Pre-book your transfers since this is an industrial port with limited infrastructure for tourists.  Taxis can cost upwards of $120 with limited space for cruise luggage.  It is smart to arrange private transfers through the cruise line, private companies or by hotels to avoid getting ripped off.

Attractions:

There is a large casino here, Casino del Pacifico, that offers gambling and spa amenities.  There are notable vineyards in the region as well as scenic beaches popular for viewing marine wildlife.  Santiago is the capital and economic center of Chile with with much offer.  Most visitors spend their time in Santiago instead of San Antonio because there is so much more to do with many great restaurants and well-rated hotels.
