In 1987, after years and years of school, Laura Eackloff graduated from the New York College Of Podiatric Medicine. The very next day she walked into a neighborhood yarn shop to learn a new skill that would be “purely for fun” and not career oriented. Little did she know that this day would change her life. Eleven years later she sold her podiatry practice and opened Gotta Knit!Her business knowledge obtained from running a medical practice, combined with her innate desire to help, is part of what makes Gotta Knit! such a huge success. The other part is Goldie Axelrod, a registered nurse and mother of three. She is the partner who brings to Gotta Knit! a “there now, let me help you pick up that dropped stitch” attitude and limitless patience.

Laura and Goldie use their people oriented skills to ensure that Gotta Knit! is all about service. They will hold your hand every step of the way through a project, from ensuring that cast on edge is nice and neat, to writing a custom pattern that will be a perfect fit, to finishing with seams that look professional; handmade, not homemade.

Above all, the reason why most knitters love this store is the girls’ terrific sense of color and design, gaining inspiration from regular trips to yarn shows in Italy. The sweaters on the walls of Gotta Knit! reflect what is currently on the runways and in the fashion magazines, as well as next year’s trends forecasted in Italy. Gotta Knit’s customers know they can have a custom pattern just for them, written to their gauge, their measurements, and be truly unique.
