Freaked over Fair Isle? Curious about stranded colorwork techniques? Intimidated by multiple strands of yarn in multiple colors? Not sure how gauge works or how to trap those floats? This is the workshop for you! We'll cover basic stranded colorwork knitting techniques for English, Continental, and Combination knitters, tackle common issues, proper technique, how to trap floats, Fair Isle history, and set good colorwork knitting habits. We'll put everything we learned into practice while knitting up the Akureyri Hat, inspired by Iceland. No previous colorwork experience necessary.

The easygoing cousin of stranded colorwork, slip-stitch knitting is a fun and easy technique that brings more color into your work without the stranding or trapping of floats like Fair Isle, or the fussiness of intarsia. We'll also add in some 2-color Estonian or Vikkle braids as a nod to our Estonian leg of the adventure! We'll knit up a trip-exclusive pattern, discuss the different types of colorwork, how to read charts, basic color theory, and finishing techniques. You'll be addicted in no time!

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care! In this stranded colorwork workshop, we'll knit up heirloom-quality holiday stockings from the top-down with an afterthought heel and a grafted toe, customizing them with different motifs, names, or even designing your own! You're the one making all the design decisions - choose as many colors as you wish (whether you're picking up yarn on our adventure or stash busting), add in Latvian or Estonian braids, buttons, texture - the sky's the limit! Previous colorwork experience necessary (taking the stranded colorwork hat class would be a great intro if you're inexperienced with colorwork).

We'll also cover ways to keep your edges tidy, casting on with two colors, how to read double knitting charts, and work up the Bridgerton Cowl!

Bohus knitting's hallmark of stranded colorwork with purl stitches creating broken relief patterns, combined with the halo from the angora in bright color palettes, made this type of knitting instantly recognizable. While any deviation from the characteristics of traditional Bohus knitting is not considered true Bohus knitting, this bottom-up hat worked in the round is a modern nod (without the angora and knit on a larger gauge) to this beautiful Swedish knitting tradition. With a bright palette reminiscent of springtime flowers, this stranded colorwork pattern with purls is repeated across the body of the hat and looks much more difficult than it is - no more than 2 colors are ever worked across at a time. The crown decreases come together at the apex to form a Skogsstjärna, or Arctic Starflower - a flower that blooms in Sweden, one of the stops on our adventure.

Cables have your brain in a twist? In this workshop we will demystify cabling without a cable needle (you of course are still free to use one if that makes you more comfortable!), how to read cable charts, and how to decrease with cables. We'll knit up the Jump Rope Hat together and have you knitting cables like a champion in no time! Please note this hat comes in 2 sizes. The average adult head will fit size S/M at 21" circumference. The M/L will fit an above-average head circumference at 23", so chose your sizing carefully. Keep in mind cables have a lot of stretch, so S/M will work well for most.
