Liverpool was designated as the European Capital for Culture in 2008 and it is the second most important city in England outside London. This well located city is on the River Mersey and is well connected by canals as well. The city is known most for its historical buildings, monuments and celebratory events including music, visual arts, performing arts, sports, architecture and heritage.

Port Orientation
Ships dock at the newly rebuilt Pier Head Landing Stage, a floating pontoon structure that works well with the changing tidal conditions. This pier is within a short 10-30 minute walk from everything of interest.

To downtown there are trains, ferries across the river and hop on hop off busses.

Sightseeing includes The Merseyside Maritime Museum, The Beatles Story revealed at the Albert Dock Warehouse, the Liverpool Catherdral (a gothic church with great views from the tower) and the Walker Gallery for art lovers.
