Taormina is Sicily in a nutshell. In a short time you’ll learn about history, art and can visit the best beaches and see nature in the raw. Once called “the land of gods and heroes," Mount Olympus is the big attraction for most visiting this Mediterranean island. There is so much to do here from shopping and just an overall lively atmosphere to beautiful churches, medieval walls, fine dining and great views.

Taormina is easily explored in a day and repeat visitors will find plenty to do since Sicily is such a beautiful and richly preserved historic island that has been shaped over 30 centuries by invaders from Africa, Asia, Arabia and Europe. This is another Mediterranean port that is so rewarding to visit that no matter how you decide to spend your day you’ll return home with many fond memories of this magical place.

Some things not to miss include; strolling along Corso Umberto, Taormina's main shopping street, where you will find exquisite embroidery and little art galleries set in the narrow streets, a photo stop in the lovely Piazza IX Aprile with views over the Mediterranean Sea, the Teatro Greco (Greco-Roman Amphitheater) built by the Greeks in the third century B.C. and lastly the Giardino Trevelyan (also known as the Parco Duchi di Cesaro) which is a lovely public park on Via Bagnoli Croce, between the Greek theater and the sea. 

Another option is to drive to Mount Etna. One of the major active volcanoes on earth, Mount Etna is the tallest in Europe at almost 11,000 feet, towering above the eastern coast of Sicily. A cable car takes you to the summit, where you can see all of Sicily.
