Description ~ Wrapped in Tradition: The Faroese Shawl
Faroese shawls are known for their elegant shaping and practical design—created to stay comfortably on the shoulders without slipping. In this engaging and hands-on class, you'll explore the history and cultural background of the traditional Faroese shawl while learning how its distinctive construction creates both beauty and function. We'll break down the key structural elements that define a Faroese shawl and discuss how its shaping differs from more familiar triangle or crescent shawls. During class, you'll work a garter tab cast-on and begin knitting a mini shawl sample to see the shaping in action and understand how the pieces come together. You'll also receive a companion pattern designed specifically for this class. If time allows, you may begin casting on during the final portion of the session—or take it with you to continue your shawl after class. By the end, you'll not only appreciate the tradition behind Faroese shawls but also understand how to confidently knit—and even customize—this timeless and wearable style.
