Portugal and Spain Knitting Cruise (Oct 2019) ~ Knitting Cruises Description

Flavors of Portugal & Spain w/ Chris Bylsma October 29-November 5, 2019

Join Chris Bylsma and fellow knitters on our first river cruise on the Douro River. This trip combines three nights in Lisbon, a high-speed train journey to Porto and seven nights on the river aboard the beautiful 102-passenger AmaVida followed by three nights in the iconic city of Madrid. This magnificent trip includes the best of Portugal and Spain.

Your optional pre-cruise adventure begins at the Intercontinental Hotel Lisbon (Oct 26-29) where you'll be surrounded by Old World architecture and rich history of a city most known for its famed explorers. Visit the lovely seaside town of Sintra, one of the most beautiful mountain villages in Portugal where the Portuguese royal family resides in the summer. Cruise aboard the AmaVida, known for its fine dining and superb staff who are ready to anticipate your every need, from October 29-November 5, 2019. Cruise from Porto, "City of Bridges" and gateway to the Douro River Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with rolling vineyards and charming villas that cling to the steep sides of the river.

Join in on a knitalong project and sip wines from the vineyards you'll be viewing as you cruise along while enjoying the company of other knitters. Disembark in Vega Terrón then take an all-day journey visiting Salamanca, famously known as "Golden City" because of its golden hues. This city dates back to Celtic times and is best known for being a key intellectual center as well as for its elaborate architecture. Here you'll see a lively flamenco, a folkloric tradition of Southern Spain, and savor a delicious lunch before settling into the Westin Palace Madrid (Nov 5-8). Located in the center of the city, this hotel is close to the most enriching museums in an area known as the "Art Walk." This iconic hotel, with its impressive stained-glass cupola, has been the place to stay since it opened in 1912. Take a tour of this fascinating city and enjoy an excursion to the nearby ancient walled city of Toledo. Cosmopolitan Madrid, renowned for its world-class museums, stately gardens and lively tapas bars, sets the stage for a grand finale you'll remember for a lifetime.
