Canada and New England Knitting Cruise (Oct 2016) ~ Knitting Cruises Description

12-Day Canada & New England Knitting Cruise w/ Ann Budd

Set sail with Ann Budd down the Atlantic Coast on a fall foliage cruise stopping at some of the most scenic, historic and culturally rich seaports along the way. Among the main highlights on this cruise include Quebec City with its French flair and windy cobbled streets, Saguenay with its scenic fjord and angora goat farm, the Mini Mills in Belfast, Halifax to meet Lucy Neatby and watch dyeing demonstrations at Fleece artists, Boston where you can trace the path of American independence, Bar Harbor where you can shop for locally dyed yarn and eat fresh New England lobster and shop for yarn at some of the best shops in the region.

This itinerary offers a good balance of interesting ports and relaxing days at sea. It starts in historical French Canada visiting eight fabulous ports of call ending with three glorious days at sea in sunny Florida. This allows for an enriching 18 class-hour program with Ann Budd teaching such classes as -- among others.

Come along and experience the crispness of Fall while sampling the delights of French Canada, and New England while learning new skills and making new friends. There are many compelling reasons we invite you to join us as we celebrate the stunning beauty of autumn onboard Holland America's ms Zuiderdam.

12-Day Canada & New England Knitting Cruise Highlights

  • In Quebec City visit the historical Old Town where you will enjoy the heritage, history and architecture dating back more than 400 years. Quebec's stone buildings and windy cobbled streets make being in this city as close to being in Europe as you can get and it is wonderful.

  • Tour the Belfast Mini Mills outside of Charlottetown where you'll learn about the small spinning mill cottage industry and have the opportunity to shop for really special locally produced souvenir yarn. This mill produces the equipment to spin such exotic fibers as Suri & Huacaya Alpaca, Llama, Camel, Muskox (Qiviut), Cashmere, Yak, Mountain Goat, Angora Goat, Angora Rabbit, all varieties of Sheep Wool, Buffalo, Husky, Samoyed, Golden Retriever, and other dog breeds, Persian Cat, Bamboo, Hemp, Flax, Long Staple Cotton, Silk, Polypropylene, other Nylon Blends, and Carbon Nanotubes at mills around the world.

  • While in Halifax meet the Fleece Artist & Handmaiden dye studio for hand-dyeing demonstrations and to learn more about how they source their luxurious fiber which includes silks, wools, kid mohairs, alpacas, seaweed and angora among others.

  • Visit the home and studio of Tradewind Knits where Lucy Neatby will inspire you with her colorful work and everyone can shop for patterns, DVD's and yarn.

  • See the work of Canadian knitwear designer, Ilga Leja, while at Tradewind Knits.

  • In Portland visit a local alpaca farm, see a trunk show given by Mary Jane Mucklestone at the Maine Fiberarts Center , shop for yarn at the wonderfully enormous Halcyon Yarns and feast on a delicious Maine lobster lunch.

  • Shop for Tess Designer Yarns near the ship in the Old Port shopping district of Portland where you'll find fine fibers in exceptional colors including the popular silk and cashmere blend called "Kitten."

  • Shop for Massachusetts very own Classic Elite yarn while Boston at their Hub Mills outlet store or at the Stitch House Dorchester.
