Increase, Decrease KAL Scarf

Instructor: Judith Durant       Class Capacity: 25
Class Level: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate

Description ~ Increase, Decrease KAL Scarf

Use various types of increases and decreases to shape and decorate an undulating scarf that is knit in four strips—two light-colored and two dark-colored. The light strips will use different techniques to create a series of decorative ovals, while the dark strips are shaped with subtle stitches and form a frame for the fancy strips. You’ll have to sew the four strips together at the end, but the results are well worth the effort!

Increase Decrease

Instructor: Judith Durant       Class Capacity: 25
Class Level: Advanced Beginner

Description ~ Increase Decrease

As a beginning knitter, when Judith was confronted with an instruction to increase, she knit into the front and back of the same stitch. If she needed to decrease, she knit two stitches together. Always. Once she started living in the Knitting Universe, she discovered how wrong that was! In this class you’ll learn increases and decreases that mirror each other so you can use one at the beginning and the other at the end of rows. You can choose increases that have a knit and a purl version so you can increase on both right- and wrong-side rows with no noticeable difference. Shaping stitches can be decorative, they can involve multiple stitches, they can pair with others, they can stand alone. You just need to choose.

Bead Up Your Knitting!

Instructor: Judith Durant       Class Capacity: 25
Class Level: Intermediate

Description ~ Bead Up Your Knitting!

Judith will teach techniques from her book Knit One, Bead Too, which combines her passion for knitting and beadwork. You’ll learn to make a small sampler bag that uses five different methods for knitting with beads. Three methods use beads strung on the knitting yarn, one uses beads strung on a separate strand of yarn, and one adds beads individually with a crochet hook. During the six-hour class you will string the beads and knit the first half of the bag, which uses all five techniques. Then you can use what you’ve learned to finish the rest!

Description ~ Dress Up Your Cables!

As if weaving sets of stitches over, under, and around each other doesn’t provide enough knitting excitement, we’ll look at ways to add even more interest to your cables. Learn how to add texture or color to any cable, and how to balance these on an even or odd number of stitches. Then we’ll apply the same concepts to add beads to your cable repertoire.

We’ll cover coping with take-up and splay, and dabble a bit in increasing and decreasing in cable patterns.
