Dunedin, New Zealand

Dunedin, on the Otago Peninsula, on the South Island, is the most Scottish city outside Scotland. You will see similarities in architecture and history. Emigrants, seeking to escape persecution for their religion came here in the early 19th century. This city is laid out well and is compact. It is easy to walk around and has two main streets - Princes Street and George Street.

Port Orientation

The ship docks about 15-30 minutes from downtown at the mouth of the bay depending on traffic. There is a shuttle service that usually runs around $10 round trip.

Once you shuttle to town walking is the best way to go. If you want to get out to the countryside either a tour (transportation options for tours come in all sizes from small and private to large coaches) or a taxi are your only options. Touring by boat to see the wildlife is also a great option.

You can take a heritage walking tour of Dunedin, a full day Catlins tour, visit the Larnach Castle, take a Monarch Wildlife Cruise, do an eco-tour, visit the Royal Albatross Centre, a tour of the Cadbury Chocolate Factory, ride the train to the Taieri Gorge or drink beer on a Speigh's Brewery Tour.
